Not much is known about Akabane Kurodo… apart from his partiality to violence/bloodshed/having fun/scaring the bloody hell out of people. He has hundreds (108, if you want to be technical about it) of razor sharp scalpels stored within his body, which may or may not be the reason behind all the scars he has, but is almost without a doubt the source of his nickname Dr. Jackal. He works mostly as a Sender and sometimes Retriever, and maybe even GetBacker, so long as he can have ‘fun’ on the job. ‘Fun’ usually referring to those aforementioned interests he has. Unsure of the limits of his own capabilities, he’s always up for a good fight. (And always up for scaring the living daylights out of Ginji.)

For those of you who are really, really bored, you can read a lil story about the good doctor:
She tossed the sandwich onto the tray and went to fill up the paper cup with coffee. Mari had been up and working since 8 AM in the morning, she had the right to be cranky especially since the customer was such a weird/scary/stupid looking person. She sneaked a side glance at him/her and rolled her eyes. Seriously, what was wrong with the people in the world today? She grabbed a few napkins and dropped them in the tray as well, not caring if one of them had fallen directly onto the coffee and was currently being soaked. It was not her problem if Johan's Tea House lost customers, as long as she was paid it was all good.
"That will be ¥3000 yen." She said flatly, not bothering to say please or even putting up the 'warm smile' they were supposed to show the customers.
Akabane Kurodo looked at the young waitress through the trademark slit in his hat. His face betrayed neither displeasure, nor annoyance at her behaviour… just the slightest smile of amusement crossing his features. He said nothing for a while, just watching her as if contemplating the best—or most amusing—course of action.
This guy is freaky… Mari thought. She swallowed with a hint of nervousness under Dr. Jackal’s unwavering gaze. She spoke in what she hoped was a level tone. “…The bill is ¥3000 yen.” Her voice still wavered slightly.
Akabane just nodded with his indecipherable smile. It was always fun for him to watch the effect he had on other people. It’s such a shame that I haven’t seen Ginji-kun in a while… he thought. Amano Ginji was someone who amused him greatly… and also puzzled him as well. Very interesting indeed. But alas, he would have to find other ways of enjoying himself while he waited for another job (and another opportunity) to cross paths with the GetBackers.
Mari drummed her fingers on the table nervously… exactly when was this guy going to pay so she could leave? Just as she was about to turn and hurry off to some other table, Akabane slowly produced a few bills from his pocket and placed them in front of her.
Without bothering to count the money, she snatched them up and prepared to run, when her customer cleared his throat gently. “Excuse me… but I believe you forgot something.” Mari turned back… bad mood or not, this guy knew how to get your attention.
The doctor smiled a bit more broadly as he raised a gloved hand. With a flash, he produced a brilliantly polished scalpel that glowed blue even in the dim lights of the café. Ever so delicately, he used the blade to lift the soiled napkin from his coffee and brought it over towards Mari.
The well-honed edge of the scalpel seemed to ring faintly in the air, and the girl gulped with fear. Dr. Jackal stopped the scalpel mere inches away from her face, before setting the napkin down gently on the tray Mari held in her now-trembling hands. He sat back again with a smile of what appeared to be satisfaction, and used the scalpel to dissect his sandwich with surgical precision.
Still frozen from a possible near-death experience, Mari slowly but surely backed away to stabilize her nerves by the cashier. She stared nervously at the clock, waiting and praying desperately that this exceedingly freakish customer would leave.
Akabane had other plans in mind though, as he carefully sliced and ate each part of his afternoon tea. The doctor was enjoying this immensely… it wouldn’t do for the girl to be so rude to customers, now would it?
But finally, he finished, and stood up to leave. Mari watched him with baited breath as Dr. Jackal paused by the open door. With a glint of who-knows-what in his eyes, he tipped his hat towards her before leaving with a dramatic sweep of his jacket. Akabane Kurodo knew how to make an exit, to say the least.
Mari finally slumped down in a chair. She really needed a better job… something less stressful and not so possibly life-threatening. Definitely.
Akabane Kurodo continued on his way… he’d had his fun. For today, anyway. Now, if only he could receive an interesting job to encounter Ginji-kun one of these days...
